Focus on the NWRC's Central Library
Since the early 1990s, the NWRC has established a modern Central Library (NWRC-CL) with the latest technological equipment and efficient linkages to recent scientific research pools. The NWRC-CL premises at Delta Barrage overlooks the Nile with a picturesque view, and has as an annex a computer center and a conference room for hosting technical seminars and meetings. Presently, the NWRC-CL is networked to the MWRI-CL at the Ministry premises (Imbaba, Giza). The library is fully automated and is accessible to the Ministry researchers through a Wide Area Network.
The NWRC-CL has been working for four years in collaboration with the National Water Quality and Management Project (NAWQAM Component 4000 - Information and Communication Management). The NWRC-CL has made its aim to keep in pace with the most recent worldwide technologies in library procedures and to provide its users with reliable instantaneous information in the field of Applied Science and Technology in a fully automated manner.
The NWRC-CL aims at providing computerized literature search to serve as a tool for professionals and researchers in the water sector from NWRC institutes, MWRI and other ministries, universities and authorities in their research work and academic studies.
The main services provided by the library include: document delivery, international database searches on CD and online, on-line journals (e-journals), web-enabled services, free-of-charge computerized bilingual search using a flexible automated library program that allows easy retrieval and printing of information, selective dissemination of information, current awareness, question and answer services through telephone, fax or e-mail services, photocopying services, distribution of publications, announcement for upcoming international events, and self-training on English Language courses using tapes and manuals.
